Firebrat (Thermobia domestica)

Firebrats are small small hexapods in the order Zygentoma. They make an excellent live food for larger frogs, relished by all terribilis and tinctorius. Hatchling firebrats are no larger than springtails and can be fed to most small frogs.

Unlike silver fish they need quite high temperatures so rarely become a best in the UK, they require temperatures between 32 and 45°C before they will begin breeding and will need a heat source (a heat mat or placing on top of a warm vivarium will suffice). They will not breed in the vivarium due to the low temperature and high humidity.

Feed with fish food or similar, keep water sources to a minimum (slightly damp cotton wool), firebrats need to be kept very dry to thrive.
